Excavator and screen

T&P Regeneration were approached by a client who had been quoted £572,000 to undertake excavation and removal of soils to facilitate the construction of a basement car park on their site. By undertaking segregated excavations, screening and on site testing T&P was able to save the client in the region of £380,000.

The scope of the works included:

  • Prior to undertaking the main works trial trenches were excavated across the site; firstly to determine the extent of the made ground and its physical composition; and secondly for the collection of samples of the underlying natural soil. This information was used to estimate the relative volumes of the different soil streams and their classification.
  • The works were undertaken in two phases with the made ground being excavated, screened and the fines retested to determine their classification first. This enabled the large volume of bricks and demolition rubble to removed separately for recycling while the reduced volume of fines were shown to be non-hazardous.
  • Following the removal of the made ground the underlying natural sands were excavated to the desired formation level and the arisings were removed as inert material.
  • The works were completed in two weeks one week ahead of programme and with a two third saving upon the costs to the client.
