Updated NHBC guidance was issued in 2015. No major changes relating to assessment of soils and foundations were noted and all volume change potential and foundation depths have remained the same. One notable addition is an increased emphasis on volume change potential on drainage runs where the potential effects of heave from existing or proposed planting on drainage (i.e. pipes and services that pass through the substructure) should be designed to take account of the potential ground movement, based upon the relative volume change potential of the soil”.
