Clovelly Road

Background

Clovelly Road is a residential development in Bideford, where T&P Regeneration was appointed to support the earthworks programme across the Phase 1 development area. The project focused on facilitating the sustainable reuse of site-won material to create level development platforms and support highway construction while meeting the required engineering and regulatory standards.

Objectives

The objective of the project was to support the Phase 1 earthworks programme by enabling the sustainable reuse of site-won material for residential development platforms and highway construction. This included verifying the suitability, strength and compaction of placed materials, assisting with material management and classification, and working closely with regulators to ensure the earthworks met the required engineering and regulatory standards.

Scope of Works

T&P Regeneration supported the Phase 1 earthworks programme through the management, tracking, stockpiling and classification of site-won materials. Verification testing was undertaken on placed materials to confirm their suitability, compactness and strength for use within residential development platforms, general fill areas and highway construction below formation level.

The team also liaised regularly with the relevant regulators to agree appropriate methodologies and identify the material types suitable for reuse on site. Testing results and supporting evidence were presented throughout the works, enabling the proposed reuse strategy to be reviewed and accepted as the earthworks progressed.

Outcome

T&P Regeneration’s verification testing and ongoing regulatory liaison provided robust evidence that the placed site-won materials met the required standards for suitability, compaction and strength. This enabled processed site-won material to be approved for reuse beneath highways as well as within general fill areas.  The agreed reuse strategy reduced the need to import replacement fill or remove suitable material from the site, supporting a more sustainable earthworks programme and delivering cost savings for the client while maintaining regulatory compliance.
